Elon Musk announced on Twitter that he intends to “vote Republican” and warned of “political attacks” on me, the latest in a string of posts from the billionaire expressing his displeasure with Democrats and progressives.
Musk’s post comes after the Tesla CEO stunned investors this week by stating that his $44 billion plan to buy Twitter had been put on hold while he awaited further information about the social media platform’s phony and spam accounts.
Analysts believe the Tesla chief is trying to back out of his ambitions to buy Twitter or buy it for a lesser price. His subsequent tweets, which included claims that he was buying the platform to “own the libs,” have sparked more debate.
Musk stated on Wednesday that political attacks against him will “increase” in the coming months, and that he will no longer support Democrats since they are a party of “division” and “hate.” Musk, who describes himself as a “political moderate,” made a similar remark earlier this week, claiming that he had previously voted for Democrats but would now vote for Republicans.
Musk has become increasingly critical of Vice President Joe Biden, whom he accuses of ignoring Tesla, his electric vehicle manufacturer. He’s also relocated his house and business operations from California to Texas, which, unlike California, has no state income tax.
Federal officials have long been on the lookout for Tesla’s CEO. According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission for failing to declare his 5% ownership in Twitter quickly enough. The SEC already fined him for tweets from 2018 in which he claimed to have “acquired finance” to take Tesla private.
Musk has said that Twitter has a “very far-left” bias and that he intends to correct this. He has also stated that he will reinstate Donald Trump, who was permanently banned by Twitter after his comments were found to be “very likely to promote and inspire people to mimic the criminal activities” that occurred in the Capitol attack on January 6.
The billionaire’s tweets have shattered Twitter’s stock and prompted conjecture about his motives. In reaction to Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal’s rants about spam, he issued a feces emoji this week. Because of the bogus accounts, Musk said earlier this week that he would seek a lesser price for the company.
He explained, “It actually depends on a number of circumstances here.” “I’m still looking for a plausible explanation for the large amount of phony or spam Twitter accounts. Twitter, on the other hand, is refusing to inform us. This appears to be an odd situation.”
Musk’s commitment to buy Twitter is legally binding, and if he backs out, he might face a $1 billion penalty.
“Twitter is committed to closing the transaction as soon as practical at the agreed price and parameters,” the business said in a statement on Tuesday.
