Breathe Life is the NKJV with featured supplemental essays, prayers and reflections written by renowned faith leaders. Trusted by millions of believers around the world, the New King James Version (NKJV) is a bestselling modern “word-for-word” biblical translation. It balances the literary beauty and familiarity of the King James tradition with an extraordinary commitment to preserving the grammar and structure of the underlying biblical languages.
The “Breathe” in the title Breathe Life Bible is an acronym for Believe, Reconcile, Exalt, Act, Trust, Hope, Elevate. Michele and Stephanie enlisted a powerful group of contributors who are faith leaders around the country, and many, including Ambassador Andrew Young and Reverend Bernice King, hail from the Atlanta area.
Additional contributors from the Atlanta area include Reverend Matthew Wesley Williams, President of the Interdenominational Theological Center, Pastor Eric Lee of Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers, Thomas Stevenson, assistant worship pastor, Liberty Church Marietta, gospel music powerhouse Jekalyn Carr, and more.
Other contributors to the Breathe Life Bible include Vashti McKenzie Murphy, general secretary of the National Council of Church of Christ, Derrick Johnson, President of the NAACP, Dr. Thelma T. Daley, president, National Council of Negro Women, and award-winning Gospel singers who are also preachers: Marvin Sapp and Hezekiah Walker.
Jekalyn Carr contributed a section called “Life Support” that talks about what it means to Be a Giver, Be Righteous, Be Persistent, Be Caring, Be Patient, Be Devoted, Be Holy,Be a Leader, Be Unmovable and Be Open. Jekalyn Carr is a preacher, singer and songwriter who has taken the Gospel music industry by storm. She received her first Stellar Award at the age of 16 and received her first GRAMMY Award nomination at the age of 18. She now has four Dove Awards, Six Stellar Awards and numerous industry nominations. She has also been inducted into the Women’s Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Michele and Stepanie came up with the idea to create the Breathe Life Bible after the 2020 death of George Floyd. They partnered with Thomas Nelson, the bible publisher that also published the Sisters In Faith devotional bible, to release the Breathe Life Bible, which is available now. With Atlanta being the center of Social Justice movements and a community of strong churches, it makes sense that such a powerful bible as Breathe Life has ties to this community.
