Comedienne Kiana Dancie on Healing through Laughter in Her Bestseller, Bye Bye Bags: Laughing to Lighten Your Load!

Kiana is a breath of fresh air in the media industry. The dazzling multihyphenate is a former co-host of TV ONE’s nationally syndicated show, Sister Circle Live. Kiana was also a featured comedian on the hit TV ONE show, Who’s Got Jokes? with Bill Bellamy, where she brought the house down. She had also starred on Bounce TV’s Off the Chain, where host Rodney Perry introduced her as a beast. Having always been the life of the party, Kiana travels across the country to share her hilarious life experiences on her sold-out comedy tour, “Single in the City.”

The dynamic media star also got to work with some of the biggest and brightest names in the industry. Kiana was recently hand-picked by Kevin Hart to perform on his LOL Stage at the Montreal Comedy Festival. After delivering a fantastic set, she was promptly cast in two movies: Sextuplets with Marlon Wayans for Netflix, and One Crazy Christmas, a BET and SHOWTIME feature.

Kiana doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. The vivacious entertainer is now an author as well, sharing her experience with healing through laughter in her best-seller, Bye Bye Bags: Laughing to Lighten Your Load! Kiana sees her book as a “call to action” and challenges her readers “to heal from the drama and trauma that has hindered [them] from moving forward in life and becoming a better person.” The comedic icon draws inspiration from her own life experiences.

She had recently gotten a blepharoplasty, a plastic surgery procedure that removes eye bags.

“I was in so much pain that I began praying that it was all going to be worth the trouble. Then clear as day, I heard God speak to me. He said, ‘Yes, you’ll be pretty on the outside, but your inside is ugly!’ All I could say was, ‘Who are you calling ugly?’ and God said, ‘You!’” Kiana shared. “At that moment, I knew that I had work to do. So, just as I put all that effort into perfecting my outside, I knew it was time to work on my inside. From that day forward, I began unpacking my emotional baggage! I decided that I would be a better me.”

Kiana dedicates her book to “every human on the planet.” The comedy queen believes that everybody has gone through their own trials and tribulations in life, and her book will inspire people to overcome them with a positive mindset.

“After reading my book, I want people to do (3) things. Write down one thing that reminds them of insecurity; write down one thing that reminds them of a failure and a shortcoming! Write it down. Tear it up and burn it! After the fire is done, NEVER EVER look back at what was burnt! Be done with everything you wrote down!”
