The Lorde has come. After nearly four years, the New Zealand artist is now close to releasing a new studio album. Following the release of her title track, the 24-year-old finally unveiled the tracklist of her third studio album titled Solar Power.
Lorde made a big splash in her return to the music scene after dropping her lead single music video on June 10. The pop culture darling made waves on Monday as she showed a glimpse of her long-awaited follow-up to her 2017 studio album Melodrama. Solar Power will come with 12 tracks, and stan Twitter has been overjoyed since the announcement.
“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out and tune in. This is what came through,” Lorde wrote in a press statement.
Apart from dropping the tracklist of Solar Power, Lorde treated her fans with more than a tracklist as she announced the schedule of the tour that will accompany her highly anticipated studio album. Scheduled in 2022, the Solar Power tour will kick off on February 26 at Lorde’s home country, New Zealand. Following that, she will be touring Australia for four dates and eventually go to the United States and Canada before heading to Europe.
According to a press release, Solar Power will be available as “an eco-conscious Music Box.” Instead of resorting to a more traditional CD rollout, the third album will have visual content, hand-written notes, exclusive photos, and a download card. Interestingly enough, the download card will enable customers to have access to exclusive bonus tracks. Additionally, she mentioned that there are more special surprises to come. “I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD,” Lorde expressed in her statement. “I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.”
Lorde teamed up with frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff in writing and producing the beachy earworm that is Solar Power. Furthermore, alternative artists Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo provided backing vocals on the title track. The music video exuded every sense of the natural world as it was co-directed by Joel Kefali.
Antonoff has been monumental in Lorde’s musical career. He was the executive producer and songwriter of almost every track on Lorde’s Melodrama.
2017’s Melodrama was a commercial success and catapulted Lorde’s status in pop culture. After her chart-topping debut single, Royals, was released back in 2013, the limelight was on Lorde. She delivered with her second studio album, earning an Album of the Year nomination in the GRAMMYs, the most coveted award in the recording industry.
Solar Power will be released across all digital and streaming platforms on August 20.
