Every great dream begins with a dreamer. – Harriet Tubman
Dreams are our exit to an alternate reality, where all we wish comes true. This is the only way a person prospects and plans for the future. Had there been no dreams, human life would be monotonous and would lack the spark and passion that it has. Dreams ignite a person’s passion and keep the fire alive until it is conquered. A similar example is Professor B. Dexterous’ professional journey. He is a renowned name in the world of boxing and has set a standard for others entering the field.
Rightfully called PRO by his colleagues and inner circle, he has defined new standards of hard work and turning passion into reality. Undercover and underestimated to date, this personality needs to be known by the world for his talent and vision of transforming boxing, to be specific. Professor B. Dexterous is a decorated USAF veteran. He joined the Air Force to serve his nation and worked diligently for six long years. His high intellect can be determined by his excellent score during college, which enabled him to pass with distinction from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Another milestone was becoming the first African-American to head a General Diagnostic Medical Sonography Department in Arkansas state history. Not only was it a moment for pride for his family and himself, but it was also an achievement for his entire community. Dexterous was raising the bar high with each passing year and continued to do so with much enthusiasm and love. In addition to serving in the Air Force, he also trained multiple physicians in the field of Physics and Instrumentation, and Diagnostic Imaging Optimization Principles of Sonography throughout America. His efforts and works did not go unnoticed throughout the years. He won multiple awards, including; the United States Air Force Personnel Specialist of the Year and Airman Leadership School John L. Levitow Award Recipient. He was also nominated for the Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award (TOYA).
All this while, the spark for prizefighting in his heart was still alive. It can be said that Dexterous was waiting for the right moment to bring forward his dream and work towards it to make it a reality. Deriving inspiration from gifted and talented prizefighters such as Jaron Ennis, Devin Haney, Claressa Shields, and Shakur Stevenson, Dexterous finally began his own venture where he would train the new generation and instill in them the precious art of boxing.
“Allow your passion to become your purpose, and it will one day become your profession.” – Gabrielle Bernstein
Sportsmanship ran in Dexterous’ blood. His father was a Vietnam War veteran who was drafted to serve in the army during his teens. Facing critical and deadly situations from such an early age left a mark on his mental state. He fought and lost many close patriots along the way. Although his father was not monetarily rich, he had a treasure of knowledge and experience which he passed on to his children. Learning from their father (and mother), Dexterous and his siblings were drawn to sports, especially boxing. Back in the day, they would order Mike Tyson’s fights and spend hours enjoying and copying the legend. In 1987, after watching the Super Fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler, the seven-year-old (Dexterous) became a die-hard fan of Sugar Ray. His flashy style and flare were always a sight to see. His fast and powerful combinations that easily knocked opponents down in just two or three strokes blew the young professor’s mind. Although Dexterous grew up to be a civil servant, the urge to enter the field of boxing remained alive in him as ever.
Passionate to revive the sport and relive the memories again, he has started training students in his academy. He aims to train his students and enable them to compete nationally and internationally. He says, “I am bringing energy, excitement, and enlightenment back to the sport of boxing through my gift of teaching, explaining, guiding, entertaining, and inspiring others… I ABSOLUTELY love being the Brand Ambassador of Boxing!”
