Fans of the teen TV series Sex Education are ecstatic to learn that streaming giant Netflix is renewing the program for another season. Season 3 of the series premiered last September 17, 2021, seeing the return of its beloved characters Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), the son of prominent sex therapist Dr. Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson).

Despite being awkward about being around the opposite sex, Otis founder another area where he is incredibly good at: giving sex advice to other students with a little help from Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey), a troubled girl with a very impressive mind, and his best friend, Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa).

From the time it premiered on the small screen, Sex Education has proven to be a viewer favorite, and critics approve as well. The TV series’ three seasons has never failed to hold an average critical approval rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has received positive reviews on the exceptional performance of the cast, its writing, and its effective portrayal of common sex issues encountered by teenagers today. Since its debut in 2019, Sex Education has been nominated for several awards. Aimee Lou Wood took home the BAFTA TV Award for Best Female Comedy Performance. Wood beat co-star Emma Mackey in the same category.

Other members of the cast include Kedar Williams-Stirling, Connor Swindells, Tanya Reynolds, Patricia Allison, Alistair Petrie, Mimi Keene, and Michael Persbrandt. Jemima Kirke joined Season 3 as Hope Haddon, the new headmistress of Moordale Secondary School.

There is no word yet from showrunners as to the released date of Sex Education Season 4. Fans of the popular TV series are speculating that it will most likely be some time at the end of 2022. Season 1 premiered in January 2019, Season 2 in January 2020, and Season 3 in September 2021 as a result of production delays brought about by the pandemic. Nonetheless, the announcement of a Season 4 is enough to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

Show creator and executive producer Laurie Nun has not hinted at possible storylines for Season 4. A few developments in Season 3, however, can give fans a bit of a clue as to what will transpire in the upcoming fourth installment. For one, Otis and Maeve already admitted their feelings for each other, but it was unfortunately put on hold when she had to leave for the United States for a study program. Fans also saw a shocking turn of events despite the excitement that baby Joy brought to the family after Jean received the mind-blowing result of the paternity test. Jakob might not be baby Joy’s father at all.

Fans also saw the breakup between Eric and Adam due to an infidelity issue. While Adam was open to forgiving Eric despite what happened, Eric no longer wanted to be tied down to their relationship. Apart from the breakup, the students at Moordale Secondary School also succeeded in their protest against headmistress Hope. While she got fired, even more surprising news followed: the investors of Moordale Secondary School sold it.

If anything, exciting times are ahead of the cast of Sex Education, and fans can barely wait to see what happens next to their beloved characters.
