For Vincent Moore—known proudly as The Legacy Chef—cooking has never been just about flavor. It is about memory. It is about faith. It is about ancestry. And above all, it is about honoring the generations of Black creators who turned struggle into sustenance and scarcity into masterpieces.

“The name Legacy Chef is a constant reminder to me,” Moore explains, “of the culinary gifted Black ancestors that made food masterpieces out of nothing.”

For him, every dish carries history. Every recipe holds a story. From the rhythms of spirituals to the creativity of modern-day innovators, Moore sees Black cuisine as a living archive—passed down through music, artistry, and survival.

“Being passed through the times of slavery in song and food into one evolving culture,” he says, “created American Black culinary excellence. That’s why we call it Soul Food.”

To Moore, soul food is not just a category. It is a testimony.

Food as a Bridge Between Generations

In Black families, food is often the centerpiece of connection—at Sunday dinners, holiday gatherings, and family reunions. Moore believes these moments are sacred.

“Our food is a gift created through our faith in God,” he says. “It reflects more than just the food. It connects us by the love and stories of all that has created it.”

He speaks warmly of the memories that live inside these meals—the laughter, the mistakes, the “remember when” stories that get passed around the table.

“We remember the ones who messed up dishes too,” he laughs. “You get to laugh with and at yourself.”

For Moore, these moments of sharing are deeply spiritual. Family meals become resets. They become reminders of who we are and what we stand for.

“Black family gathering food time is a unifying, revealing, soulful reset,” he says. “It builds us up and connects us in love regardless of our circumstances.”

Through food, identity is preserved. Through recipes, legacy is protected.

Turning Struggle Into Spiritual Expression

Many of the most beloved Black dishes were born in times of hardship—when creativity was a necessity and resilience was survival. Moore approaches this history with reverence and innovation.

“I believe each individual is born with a unique talent expressed through faith,” he explains.

For him, inspiration often begins with music.

“I’m particularly connected through soulful songs,” he says. “Music, together with words, reveals what kind of recipe I can inspire.”

He describes his creative process as spiritual translation:

  • Lyrics become ingredients.
  • Rhythm becomes flavor.
  • Ancestral memory becomes triumph.
  • Faith becomes the foundation.

“Ingredients are history. Flavor is a struggle. Ancestral connection is triumph,” Moore says. “That allows me to remain true to those soulful roots.”

In his kitchen, tradition and imagination are never in conflict. They are partners.

Innovation With Integrity

In today’s social media-driven food culture—where trends rise and fall overnight—Moore remains grounded in purpose. He refuses to chase attention at the expense of authenticity.

“I focus on the essence of Black culinary culture,” he says. “Healthier, memorable, flavor with soulful togetherness.”

He believes quality takes time, even in a fast-paced world.

“Anything of value is going to take some time,” he says. “Not everyone can wait that long—but it’s worth it.”

Moore continually experiments with healthier alternatives, custom spices, and blended techniques to honor tradition while meeting modern needs.

“I’m constantly substituting alternate healthier ingredients,” he explains, “without losing flavor.”

And still, he stays true to what Black cuisine represents.

“Black cuisine is supposed to fill the room with aroma,” he says. “And make you think, ‘It’s going to be so worth the wait.’”

That philosophy has inspired him to expand beyond the kitchen, creating luxury culinary experiences that bring Black couples together through food, music, and environment.

For Moore, innovation is never about ego. It is about unity.

“I enjoy cultivating family, faith, and togetherness,” he says. “That’s our culture.”

Creating Moments That Heal

When someone tastes his food for the first time, Moore hopes the experience reaches far beyond the plate.

“I hope their burdens are lifted,” he says. “That the taste changes their mood to a more hopeful place.”

He wants his dishes to unlock memories—of grandparents, childhood kitchens, and family traditions long remembered.

“I love hearing how the food reminds them of someone they love,” he says. “And when they share that story with me.”

Those conversations, he believes, are where transformation happens.

“It’s in these sharing moments that something happens on a deeper level,” Moore explains. “When we truly see and share each other’s culture.”

In those moments, food becomes more than nourishment. It becomes understanding.

“It goes beyond what is seen,” he says. “A lifelong understanding is felt.”

And when that happens, Moore knows his purpose has been fulfilled.

“A joyful peace is felt,” he says. “And I can’t help but genuinely smile as a Legacy Chef.”
