If people want to share something from their lives, we’ll look at what we can do to help them.” He continued, “We don’t force people to participate, but it’s one of the ways we try and create a sense of togetherness among our staff and celebrate their success or wins. We are one high-performing clinic and having good teamwork contributes to achieving that.”

Dr. Jack, who is currently responsible for the formation of a specialized dental hospital, has implemented several team-building activities such as ten-pin bowling and painting nights to foster unity amongst his staff. Furthermore, he has instituted individual performance reviews to aid employees in gauging their own development. His advice for colleagues is to “publicly extol” their peers as he believes that, 

“People want to hear public acknowledgment and it’s a good way to help colleagues feel valued.”

Given the current circumstances of a lack of personnel such as dental assistants, the repercussions of the pandemic, and the increasing emphasis on more flexible working arrangements, Dr. Jack considers it essential for dentists and their assistants to cultivate a contented team by instilling in them a sense of teamwork and focusing on retaining the staff. 

According to Dr. Jack, when it comes to developing a cohesive team, recruitment is key as it is essential to ensure that new staff members are aligned with the organization’s core values. This requires a clear vision that is effectively communicated to all potential team members so that a harmonious team can be built.
