Artist-Entrepreneur Mikey Diaz Raises Funds for Upcoming Short Film to Showcase Black Lives

Despite how popular social media platforms are today, a lot of stories are still kept in the shadows. But Mikey Diaz wants to change that by being the voice for the voiceless and amplifying the narratives of people who have lived their lives with passion, integrity, and hard work. Currently raising funds for his project, Black Gold of the Sun, Mikey’s goal with the help of Choreographer Samuel Hill the 3rd is to shed light on the Black community and highlight their inspiring stories through the ages.

Mikey Diaz is a multitalented artist and entrepreneur who is expanding his empire through film, comics, clothing, music, and dance, bringing all these facets of art together under one umbrella seamlessly. In addition, Mikey strives to unite people from all walks of life, creating a community of unique individuals from different backgrounds, creeds, sexualities, colors, and religions.

Black Gold of the Sun is a short film that celebrates Black people and combines a documentary style approach through dance, spoken word, poetry, and music to tell stories of Black love, struggles, strength, beauty, and the future of Black lives. The project was sparked by his curiosity and hope that maybe our stories are never told by us for us and what happens when we start to do it. It all started with an artistic vision for harmony and innovative communication. Mikey wants Black Gold of the Sun to be one of the most innovative projects for amplifying the plight of Black lives across the globe. Mikey is currently fundraising through the short film.

In addition, Mikey has established a long term working relationship with silent partner and creative consultant Latasha Bell. Mikey and Tasha have collaborated ideas on multiple projects, this collaboration has transformed into a management company. The artist-entrepreneur built a recording studio with business partner Joshua Johnson that was established to unify artists in Texas and create a collective community where creative minds would feel safe and empowered to create something unique for the future.

Mikey Diaz carries a certain air of ease, allowing people to be open and transparent around him even at their first meeting. He is currently attending the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports, and Management on a full scholarship, where he is learning to become an entrepreneur while simultaneously nurturing his creative spirit. When asked why he chose to attend such an institution, Mikey shared that he wants to expand his entrepreneurial aspirations to help other artists who need empowerment, direction, and space to express themselves freely.

“I just want people to feel loved, seen, and heard,” Mikey Diaz explained. “That is what makes me separate from everyone. I do it for the love of the craft, not the money,” he added further.

Growing up listening to his father’s music, Mikey Diaz was exposed to many different genres and fostered his love for the craft. That sparked more passion within him to explore other forms of art. Eventually, Mikey found himself deeply invested in film, television, music, graphic novels, and comics. The artist aims to create timeless pieces of art that will impact not only the current generations but also to those who are yet to be born. Mikey wants to cement his name down in history through his works, passing down narratives from one generation to the next.

Asked who inspires him the most, Mikey Diaz shared that he is motivated and driven by the life of his sister (Tawanda Latasha Diaz), who recently passed away in July. “I had already been working on my brand, but after her death, I was motivated to not only launch my brand but also continue her legacy with her clothing brand as well, Chess Over Checkers,” Mikey explained.

In five years, Mikey Diaz wants to build his own company and become part of notable panels to mentor others about branding. To learn more about Mikey Diaz and his extraordinary ventures, visit his website.
